It’s a labor of love. At Schafer Sports Center, young gymnasts train weekly as part of Special Olympics New Jersey under the expert guidance of Shannon Schafer, owner and Director of Special Needs. A national Special Olympics coach in 2014, Shannon has also run the New Jersey Special Olympics summer games for years.
Special Olympics gives children with intellectual disabilities opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.
Children ages 2 through 7 prepare for sports through the Young Athlete™ program’s games and activities, which are based on a progression of early childhood motor skills. From age eight through young adult, individuals with intellectual disabilities can train for competition at the regional, state and national level.
Please complete the intake form so that we can better understand your child and their needs. This will allow us to work with you in creating a program that fits their needs.
